A week long Workshop on Entrepreneurship Development for Faculty members and Budding Entrepreneurs (27th Jan -31 Jan 2015)
India is steadily marching ahead with its Development story since its liberalization of the economy in 1991. This has created a wide arena of opportunities, for those interested to start their own Enterprise. Further, the atmosphere for New Enterprise creation in India has been improving day by day, due to formulation of a number of Entrepreneur friendly policies by the Government and Banks.
Another important factor that is an advantage for India in the future is its rich Human Resource, wherein India is the hotbed of people in their Young age, that is in the age group of 18 years to 40 years, only next to China.
In this scenario, the role of Educational Institutions becomes very crucial to ensure the supply of Entrepreneurs to our society, and at this juncture it is the prime responsibility of all the Educational Institutions in the country today, to develop their students as “JOB CREATORS” rather than “JOB SEEKERS.” The Govt of India has announced a number of programs to support such Educational Institutions involved in Entrepreneurship Development. For this to happen, the Faculties / Teachers of different educational institutions have to be trained up as Trainers in Entrepreneurship, so that they can motivate the students in their campus to take up Entrepreneurship. This requires equipping them with training methodologies related to various aspects of Entrepreneurship.

With this background, The Entrepreneurship Cell of BNMIT, Department of Management Studies organized a Five Day Workshop on Entrepreneurship Development in association with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad (EDI) from 27-31st January, 2015.

EDI is a National Level Apex Institute involved in Training, Education and Research in Entrepreneurship since 1983. The institute is promoted by major Industrial Banks viz, IDBI Ltd, SBI, ICICI Ltd, IFCI Ltd and Govt of Gujarat and EDI has been the National Implementing Agency for various Government Departments related to Entrepreneurship Development such as Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Food Processing, Ministry of Industries and Commerce etc.

The facilitators for this workshop included senior officials from Government Departments such as Department of Industries and Commerce-GOK, Department of IT &BT- GOK, Senior Bankers, Successful Entrepreneur, EDII Faculty and senior BNMIT Faculty.
This workshop covered a wide range of topics such as Business Idea Generation, Creativity and Innovation in Entrepreneurship, Business Planning Process and Institutional support, Governmental Support, Social and Rural Entrepreneurship.

VTU was also pleased to endorse the program and sent letters to all affiliated colleges urging them to nominate faculty members. More 12 colleges throughout Karnataka send their representatives to this workshop and 45 participants including internal faculty members participated in this workshop. They have received Certificate from EDII. The participants also felt that such programme would be extremely useful to the candidates and institutions in NBA and NAAC accreditation process.
